Zingara - be seduced by the Gyspy Queen
February 10, 2008
The Conrad Jupiter’s show has been going for quite some time now, but if you have not yet had the chance to see it, Zingara is a supremely entertaining show. It is quite spectacular, with a diverse range of acts and scenes loosely tied together with the Gypsy theme. Zingara may be disjointed and lack any solid or obvious plot, but it never feels like it was trying to create a storyline, and rather aims to captivate the audience with spectacles and marvels, which it does exceptionally well.
The costumes and sets are varied and very detailed. The stage completely transforms itself from distinctly western European themes to Arabian and then to Russian scenes quite seamlessly. You never get bored with a particular set as its stay is never too long, and is just enough to make you truly appreciate the effort that has gone into creating, choreographing and training the cast and surroundings.
On that note too, it must be said that the cast are also incredible. I realise that I am lavishing praise very generously with this review, but Zingara does have a magic, and I can almost guarantee that you will fall under the show’s spell by the end. As the promotional materials say, Zingara is “filled with music, dance, illusion, acrobatics and death-defying stunts”. The last is no exaggeration either. There are some parts that have you simultaneously amazed whilst terrified for the people onstage.
Perhaps it could have been a bit more obvious with a storyline or plot. Perhaps it could have done some things here and there a little differently. But to be honest, I really would not know what I would change in Zingara - it’s a delightful mix of performance, magic and mystique, thrill and a display of some amazing skill. If you are staying at the Gold Coast or live near enough to make the trip just for the show, then I would certainly go. I found it thoroughly enjoyable at the very least and am thinking of even going again.

I can thoroughly recommend this show which is according to my parents was world class, better than anything they’ve seen before, even in Vegas!! We were on the coast for 3 raining days, and this definitely was the highlight. We were transformed into many worlds and were thrilled by the magical and sometimes death defying stunts. The sets and costumes were stunning, as were the performers.
Hi Leisa,
Thanks for the comment - I agree with you entirely!
My sister and I have especially flown to the gold coast a second time to see this amazing stage show. We loved it and yes it’s everything the review above says it is. We particularity loved Stefan Le Forestair who did the Le statue illusion he is certainly mesmerizing to say the least. I wish it would come to the Central coast or sydney . They should release a DVD of it. Zingara is spectacular and I want to go back for more. 5 stars to all the performers. xxxxxxxx
