Livewired - Free comedy at the Brisbane Powerhouse
February 4, 2008
Every Sunday evening the Brisbane Powerhouse plays host to the free live stand up comedy act, Livewired. It’s a good laugh with a selection of very capable special guests and best of all it’s free!
The 2008 Livewired season is on again from last Sunday (February 3rd) and it’s already clear to me that none of the humour or talent has gone over the holiday break. Claire Hooper (from the Sideshow) was the feature for this week’s act and she was great. Coupled with a fantastic host, you can’t really ask for much more.
There is a bar available for drinks and snacks as well. It’s a little pricey, but when the comedy is free it doesn’t seem to matter that much.
If you are going I would suggest that you arrive early. It officially starts at 6:30pm but if you want a seat then you will need to have arrived much, much earlier. Seating is at a premium, but normally there is plenty of standing room, especially on the balconies.
I’ve been going to the Livewired comedy since the end of 2007 and it’s a really nice and relaxed way to spend a Sunday evening. Generally the lineup draws on local talent, with a feature act just after the intermission. Most of the comedians are very good, but some are not quite as funny. Catch a ferry to New Farm, have a few drinks while enjoying the comedians and then dinner or movies later.
In a nutshell:
Where? Brisbane Powerhouse
When? Every Sunday evening from 6:30pm until about 8:30
How? Bus or ferry
